<Observer>
In <Observer>, designer Jung-woo Park assumes the roles of both observer and content creator. The project focuses on recording the movements of dancer Sung-eun Park, emphasizing data visualization within a 3D space. Dance and performance are typically transient arts, but Jung-woo Park seeks to encapsulate these moments not as performances but within a 3D spatial context from the perspective of an observer. Utilizing 3D space, the project aims to analyze movements from various perspectives, digitize them, and encapsulate both the timelessness of art and contemporary technology simultaneously.
Throughout the data visualization process, unconventional movements and those influenced by technical glitches are captured. Recording the choreographer's actions in a 3D space, the project showcases repetitive displays of body movements through various methods. Motion capture using a smartphone camera is employed to record the dancer, observing movements based on dotted surfaces, and furthering the exploration through media and music works.
Additionally, the project explores movements involving three instruments—rainstick, egg shaker, and toa shaker—by removing the forms of the instruments and focusing solely on the movements. The goal is to utilize technology to eliminate the forms of the instruments, delving into the dancer's new movements. This visually presents organic movements and constrained body actions.
Through video exploration, new movements are discovered, and concise gestures are created, repeatedly observed from various angles. This work exemplifies the process of combining new technology and technical flaws to generate innovative movements.
Designer Jung-woo Park, through collaboration with choreographer Sung-eun Park, seeks to explore a new dimension of contemporary dance and performing arts through the fusion of art and technology.
